The tech industry is having a very public internal debate.

This weekend, Khosla Ventures partner Keith Rabois publicly defended Border Patrol’s actions in the shooting death of Alex Pretti, a Minneapolis ICU nurse.

His posts on X were forceful enough that two of his colleagues — partner Ethan Choi and firm founder Vinod Khosla — publicly distanced themselves from his views.

Khosla called current enforcement actions “macho ICE vigilantes running amuck empowered by a conscious-less administration.”

They’re not alone in speaking out. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei posted about “preserving democratic values” and the “horror we’re seeing in Minnesota.”

Signal president Meredith Whittaker, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and Google DeepMind’s Jeff Dean have also weighed in.

Meanwhile, more than 450 tech workers have signed an open letter urging their CEOs to call the White House and demand ICE leave U.S. cities.

Many of the industry’s most powerful figures — Bezos, Cook, Pichai, Zuckerberg — have remained silent.

It’s a striking moment: partners at the same firm publicly disagreeing, employees pressuring leadership, and a widening gap between those speaking up and those staying quiet.
