Irish 49, Purdue 10. That one was over early.
Notre Dame led 35-0 at halftime in West Lafayette, the first time the Irish have ever put up 35 first-half points against Purdue. Five different players scored touchdowns before the break.
CJ Carr threw three TDs and ran for another, and he kept drives alive with designed runs on third down. Aneyas Williams went 22 yards untouched on his way to 75 rushing yards and a score.
On defense, Bryce Young had two sacks, and one of them knocked the ball loose for Drayk Bowen to return for a touchdown. Purdue managed 12 rushing yards in the first half.
Backup QB Noah Grubbs even threw his first career TD pass to Matt Jeffery.
That’s 4-0 and No. 3 in the country! I’m liking it….
Saturday, the Irish go to Chapel Hill to face North Carolina at noon on ESPN. It’s the first time Notre Dame faces Bill Belichick as a college coach.
Where I think this lands squarely in our world is Belichick himself. Twenty-four seasons and six Super Bowls in New England. Few resumes in any profession are better. But he went 4-8 in his first year at UNC. Same coach, different game.
In the NFL, he had the salary cap, the draft, and a roster of pros. In college, it’s recruiting, the transfer portal, and NIL. A lot of what made him great still applies. Some of it has to be relearned.
I see the same thing in ERP hiring every week. Someone who was a star at a large Microsoft partner with a deep bench, a delivery methodology and a PMO behind them can struggle as the solo NetSuite admin at a growing manufacturer. The reverse happens too. The resume isn’t wrong. It was just earned in a specific environment.
This is why I keep saying the most important interview question isn’t “What have you done?” It’s “Where did you do it, and what did you have around you when you did?” Team size, support structure, and who owned what. That’s where you find out whether the success will travel.
Go Irish, and let’s go handle North Carolina on Saturday!
