LinkedIn just cut 606 people in California. Most of them were Bay Area engineers.
The reason they provided: “building leaner teams that lean harder on AI”

Most people read that as “AI is coming for technical jobs.” That interpretation is easy to digest, but not necessarily accurate.

When Microsoft trims engineering and points to AI, the work does not really go away, it just changes form and function.

Alot of that movement within the Dynamics 365 and NetSuite world will be towards experienced ERP talent with years of hands on experience and knowledge.

AI can write code, but it cannot sit with a controller and figure out why the close breaks every quarter.

It cannot own a D365 Dual-write integration when finance and operations disagree on the source of truth.

That work is functional requiring a combination of logic, intuition, social awareness and any number of other factors that are specifically unique to every company and organization and their culture.

There are two markets here, and they are moving in opposite directions.

Platform engineering at the hyperscalers is contracting, but the implementation and operations layer on top of those platforms will soon be tightening once again in my opinion.
