Every RIF this year seems to come with the excuse that it is because of AI..I’m not buying it

Every layoff and RIF this year seems to come with the excuse that it is because of AI.

I have placed Dynamics and NetSuite talent for more than twenty-five years, and I do not buy it; increasingly, neither do the people in the Microsoft Dynamics & NetSuite communities, as well as the overall technology space.

Marc Andreessen recently called AI the “silver bullet excuse” for cuts that are really about overstaffing.
Jack Dorsey blamed AI for the deep cuts at Block, then admitted the company had simply overhired.
Robinhood announced a ten percent reduction and pointedly did not mention AI at all.

Here is why I think this matters for anyone hiring in the ERP world, and it is not the conclusion most people reach.

What we are watching is a generalist correction, not a sign that senior ERP judgment is being automated away. When a D365 or NetSuite environment breaks during a close, no one fixes it with a thinner org chart and a chatbot; they fix it with a Veteran who has seen it before and knows how to fix the problem. That person is getting more valuable, not less.

So my advice is simple. Do not let the overall doom-and-gloom talk you out of hiring the senior, cross-stack person you actually need. The headlines describe a generalist surplus; your problem is almost certainly a specialist shortage, and those are not the same market!
