No One Has 10 Years of AI Expertise. The Technology Isn’t 10 Years Old.

No one has 10 years of AI expertise. The technology is not 10 years old.
I keep hearing companies say they want to hire an AI expert. I understand the instinct. I also think it is close to impossible right now.

There are very few real AI experts at all, let alone on any single platform. The whole field is a couple of years into being genuinely useful. Anyone claiming a decade of experience is not being honest with you and/or to themselves.

So here is the shift I would make. Stop trying to hire the expertise. Start building it into the people you already have.

This is far more realistic than it was even six months ago. Anthropic, the company behind Claude, now runs real training courses, with certification exams to go with them.

More than 400,000 people have already gone through the training this year.

Most leaders “hope” their team will just pick this up on their own.

A few will, but most will not, not without time set aside and a real path to follow.

Your best people already know your business and the systems you run. Giving them a structured way to learn the AI piece is faster, cheaper, and lower risk than searching for a unicorn who may not exist.

Are you still trying to hire an AI expert, or are you building one from the good people you already have?
